Tips for a Great Online Consultation

We have three modes for conducting online consultations this semester:

  1. Google Docs: This option is best for revising a paper, text-based learners, or if you have a slower internet connection.
→ Prior to your online consultation, your consultant will send a Google Doc to your preferred email that you can copy and paste your work into.

  2. Zoom: This option is best for brainstorming, idea development, and verbal-based learners.
→ Prior to your Zoom consultation, your consultant will send a Zoom link to your preferred email.
→ Please note that some consultants are not available for Zoom appointments. Those consultants have “Google Doc Only” under their name.

  3. Asynchronous: This option is best for written drafts that aren't due too soon and for students in different timezones.
→ Asynchronous consultations are available on a different schedule; use the drop-down menu to find it!
→ You will need to submit your work when you schedule your asynchronous appointment.
→ Please plan on spending at least 15 minutes filling out the form to schedule your appointment.

For Google Doc and Zoom appointments, if you do not receive a Google Doc or a Zoom link by five minutes after the hour, reach out to us via the chat box on our homepage and we will sort it out.

Should you encounter an internet connection problem during your consultation, try to let your consultant know via the chat feature or contact us using the chat box on our homepage. We will get in touch with you to reschedule your appointment or find another solution!

Be ready to tell your consultant about your assignment and what you are hoping to accomplish during your session.

We are excited to work with you again this semester!

Appointments can be made up to two weeks in advance. If you have to miss an appointment, please cancel 12 hours in advance to open up the appointment for another client. If you miss three appointments, your account will be disabled for the remainder of the semester.

Students who are late for their appointments may forfeit their slot to walk-in clients. Please call if you know you will be late (432-3610).

Students are limited to 3 appointments per week and no more than one appointment per day (not to exceed 3 in one week) across all writing center locations.

Making appointments using second accounts or friends accounts is strictly against WC policy and offenders will be blocked from the system immediately and for the duration of the semester.

Having trouble logging in? Enter your email address below and then click "Reset Password." The system will immediately email you with instructions for changing your password. If you do not receive that email in a few minutes, please check your spam filter.

Receiving unwanted text messages from this system? This system can send appointment reminder and waiting list notifications via text message, but only if a cell phone number and carrier is entered by a client when creating or updating an account on the system.

If you have an account on the system, log in to edit your profile and modify your cell phone preferences. If you do not have an account on this system, it's possible that your cell phone number was entered accidentally. Fill out the form below to remove your number immediately.
